ThinMT Project Update: Higher Resolution, Lower Speed

Top Finished

In my last post I stated that my board was somewhere between China and My House. It is now at my house, and it has been for about two months. In this two months I've been able to assemble it, and work out most of the bugs(more on those later). Click the button below to continue reading.

Its been a while!

It has been a long time(I missed a whole month!) since I have blogged, but I intend to fix that very soon(starting once I start blogging about my new FreeRunner:D).

Several people have emailed me or found me on IRC and asked what was going on with my Thin-MultiTouch research, so it time for an update. Click the button below to continue reading.

Code, Schematics, Diagrams

In the last post I promised that I would get code and schematics up soon.  I didn't exactly meet that promise, for it wasn't exactly "soon", but I am getting them up nonetheless.  I am also going to explain how my system works, for informative purposes, and so I have it written down somewhere accessible.

For people that don't regularly follow my blog, or don't talk to me on IRC: Many people have created Multi-Touch sensing panels out of photrotransistors/photodiodes, many of them large then mine. I am planning a larger version of mine, and eventually put this array behind the screen of a netbook, and have a Multi-Touch netbook. My array is different because it is the first(to my knowledge) that employs a method of background subtraction through software. Others either only work in dark rooms, or require very large and expensive bandpass filters.  Click the button below to continue reading.

Project Log: Thin Multi-Touch 5x6 Array

Since my last post I have been working on a larger array(not just a single row) of phototransistors. My goal this time was not to _have_ a thin multi-touch setup, but to test a myriad of phototransistors to determine which one would be best in a larger setup. Each row of five phototransistors contains a different kind of phototransistor.  Click the button below to continue reading.

Thin Multi-Touch: Project Log

Lately I have been working on a method of Thin Multi-Touch, that is, A Multi-Touch setup that doesn't use a camera, and is less then an inch thick.  I plan on achieving this by replacing the camera with an array of phototransistors.  For those of you that don't know, a phototransistor is just like a regular transistor with the base left open to collect light.  They are essentially a sensor that changes the resistance between two pins proportionally to how much light is entering the phototransistor.  Click the button below to continue reading.

Welcome!

Welcome to the blog of Alex Teiche(xelapond).  I am replacing my last blog with this one, because I really hate the wordpress.com free service.  I'm still using the wordpress backend, however, because of its great community and huge list of plugins.  This blog will contain random musings on whatever I happen to be working on(expect a lot of computer interfaces(Multi-Touch!), computer vision, embedded electronics, etc), and just rants about whatever i'm thinking.  I will probably also write some tutorials for various things pertaining to Python.  Ill try and update frequently, at _least_ once a month, hopefully more like once a week.  Click the button below to continue reading.
